What year did you start playing roller derby?: 2017
What year did you join MARD?: 2017
Why did you get involved in roller derby?: The first time I ever saw a bout I just thought: "this is the coolest shit I've ever seen".
What skates do you use?: Riedell Solaris with Arius Plates
How has roller derby changed your life?: Roller derby has made me a more confident woman in so many ways. As such a body positive sport it has greatly impacted the way I view my own body and the amazing things it can do. Also as someone with a lot of anxiety (especially socially), roller derby has made me less anxious and more open to experiences.
Why did you choose your derby name?: Because I’m OBSESSED with glitter and/or anything that sparkles!
Day job?: Special Education Teacher and Artist
What is your favorite part of roller derby?: I love all the amazing women I have been able to meet through roller derby. I also love that roller derby continues to push for more inclusivity, whether in terms of gender identity or racial background, and a more open dialogue about rape culture and sexual harassment. Roller Derby CAN and WILL change the world.
Do you have any bout day routines or superstitions?: I need about 30 minutes to properly apply copious amounts of glitter.
Final thoughts?: If you think you’re too old, too scared, too big, or too whatever for roller derby: you’re not. If you’ve been thinking about it just do it and I promise you’ll never regret it.
